Pop song rewrites for St Valentine’s Day – 4

Especially for you this Valentine’s Day, here are some more rewrites of pop songs with a romantic twist written by students at International House Santa Clara in February 2012.  Enjoy!

First up, is Mariana’s wonderful reworking of Perfect Two by Auburn…

Perfect Two by Mariana

You can be the police and I can be the thief
You can be the fork and I can be the knife
You can be the dictionary and I can be the word
You can be the chalk and I can be the board

You can be the watch and I can be the hours
You can be the fairy and I can be the flowers
You can be the bed and I can be the pillow
You can be the wall and I can be the window

Someone like you, I’d never seen
Boy you know, that your fate is with me
So baby ask me to marry
That is all I need

‘Cause you’re the orange to my tree
You’re the “Um” to my “brella”
You’re the water to my sea
And I want to be your Cinderella

And here’s the original that inspired Mariana’s rewrite:

Up next it’s a reworking of Adele’s Someone like you… (get your tissues ready, it’s a bit of a tear-jerker!)

On Valentine’s Day I have a present
I found the perfect one
And give it to you now
I heard that my nightmare came true
Guess you didn’t give me a thought
That I give to you your love
Why is it so important?
I love you all the time
Oh I want you
I hate to pass this day alone
So I have to cry and hide
I hope you’ll be with me
On this Valentine’s Day.

Here’s the original so you can sing along…

Coming up now on radio IH Santa Clara’s Valentine playlist, it’s Sofia’s rewrite of The one that got away by Katy Perry (“the one-o-one-o-one-one-o-one-o”)…

20 past midnight

When I woke up

I turn the light on

And looked at my phone

And then I realised

It was Valentine’s Day

Had no money for nothing

Even for a chocolate

I had to invent something special for you

Never thought that you wouldn’t want a gift…

With you I learned, we can’t see love

You have to feel it in your heart

With you I learned, we have to be loyal

So I don’t have to say it is Valentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day

On that day

I went to school

I ran to the field where you always are

But on that morning

You weren’t there

Someone said that you’d stayed at home

So I caught the bus to see your pretty face

And when I saw your face I jumped into your arms

It is, It is, It is Valentine’s Day…

I have no money to buy you a good car, no

Can’t stay away from you for too long, no

Now I say what you mean to me

You’re in my heart

Here’s the original…

Who said Mariah Carey was just for Christmas?  All I want for Christmas Valentine’s is you, lyrics by Carolina…

I don’t want a lot for Valentine’s
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about flowers
That you might give to me

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Valentine’s is…you

I don’t want a lot for Valentine’s
There is just one thing I need
And I don’t care at all for flowers
That you might give to me

I don’t need a lot of gifts
As proof of your love
You won’t make me happy with
With a chocolate on Valentine’s
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Valentine’s is…you
You Baby!

Oh I won’t ask for much this Valentine’s
I won’t even wish for letters
And I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Thinking that you will come

I won’t even think about
A big night on the town
I won’t even go to bed
Thinking of those roses that are red

Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me tight
What more can I do?
Baby all I want for Valentine’s is…you

Oh all the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of passionate kisses
Grows everywhere

And everyone is kissing
I feel love in the air
And I have so much to share
So please bring me my baby

Oh I don’t want a lot for Valentine’s
This is all I’m asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door

Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Valentine’s is…you
Baby!

Here’s the original…

Right now, it’s Bruno time…here’s a Valentine’s version of Count on Me originally by Mr Mars but with new lyrics from Alexandra…

If you ever find yourself
Stuck in the middle of bad thoughts
I’ll cross your mind
To make you happy

And if you ever find yourself
Lost in the world
And you don’t know where
I’ll be the road
To bring you back

I’ll find out what I’m for
When you call me to help you in these moments

You can count on me
Like 1, 2, 3
I’ll be there
And I know when I need it
I can count on you
Like 4, 3, 2

And you’ll be there
Because that’s what friends are supposed to do

If you’re tossin’ and you’re turnin’
And you just can’t fall asleep
I’ll sing a song
Beside you

And if you ever forget
How much you really mean to me
Every day, I’ll remind you

You’ll always have my
Shoulder when you cry
I’ll never let you go
Never say goodbye
You can count on me
Like 1, 2, 3
And I’ll be there…

Next up, time to scream, it’s One Direction’s song One Thing rewritten as One Love by Mariana…

One Love

Something’s gotta be said now
‘cause I’m freaking out just to make you see
that I need you here with me now
‘cause you have one place in my heart

So get off, get off, get off my wave
and go into my heart instead
I don’t, I don’t, I don’t know what it is
but I need you with me
and you’ve got that one thing

Here they are…

So, that’s it, our Cupid’s countdown of Valentine’s Day musical delights comes to an end here.  We hope you’ve enjoyed them and have a very special Valentine’s Day.  Lots of love from everyone at International House Santa Clara.
